Do you consider yourself under tall? Should you really be 3 foot taller because the bathroom scales register you at 18 stones?

Nearly 3 million people die every year because they're overweight or obese. The Body Mass Index Test (BMI) is therefore, an important tool to know if your weight is healthy or not. It takes your height into consideration. You might be wondering why this is important for a healthy weight. Well, having the right weight to height ratio will not only make you feel confident in your body, but it will ensure that your organs are healthy.

Ultimately, that's much more important than being a size that impresses society. Losing weight is not rocket science, cut down 500 calories a day under the RDA for your gender, take a walk in the park or round the estate, 30 minutes to an hour a day will be enough to get your weight moving from your waistline.  Using The Diet Plate can help you to cut calories from your diet while also reminding you to eat nutritious foods because the plates are designed according to food group portions. This prevents you from following an unhealthy diet that can lead to weight problems, such as being under, or over your ideal weight.

Is Your Weight Healthy, Let's Look At BMI?

When you take the BMI test here,  http://thedietplate.com/register_account/  scroll to the bottom of the registration page, it is is free to use. You'll find out if your weight is considered normal, if you're underweight, or if you're overweight. Being too thin or too fat can be hazardous to your health. A report from the World Cancer Research Fund found that having a healthy BMI of 20 to 25 is one of the most important ways to prevent cancer. If you're trying to burn more calories, such as by boosting your metabolism to lose weight, it's important to keep checking your BMI during your weight-loss journey. This will let you know that you're still at a healthy weight for your body to function optimally.

You should also make sure you're getting calories from healthy food groups, such as; starch, protein, fruit and vegetables with a little less from sugar, dairy and fats. We make it easy for you to do on the Diet Plate as calories are counted for you and food group portions are optimised for the body.  The Diet Plate has been tested by the University of Calgary in an independent clinical study and results showed that you are six times more likely to lose weight rather than going it alone but also you are three times more likely to control  Type 2 Diabetes if you have the condition. Losing 10% of your body weight can really improve the symptoms of Type 2 Diabetes, so it is well worth trying to get your weight down. When you're at your ideal weight, you feel energetic, you function much better, brain fog goes as does digestion, wind and joint problems, the benefits of being a healthier weight are enormous not only to your physical  health but to your mental health too. Your immune system works at its best when you are a normal weight ratio, so you keep viruses and illness at bay more easily.

When your body is not at a healthy weight for your height, your immune system doesn't work at its peak. This can cause your body to have to fight harder to ward off illness. According to Prevention, people who become seriously ill with swine flu have this characteristic in common: they have a BMI over 40. On the other hand, being under weight too is also bad because you won't have enough white blood cells to fight illness. Here are some other dangers of being either too thin or overweight. The danger of being too thin when you're underweight (in other words, your BMI is less than 18), you're not consuming enough calories or filling your plate with nutritious foods to give you energy, not eating at all or missing meals. This will cause you to become lethargic, which can lead to anaemia, a condition when the body lacks red blood cells from a lack of nutrients such as iron, we get iron from food; red meat, green leafy veggies etc. With fewer red blood cells, less oxygen and blood reach the body's organs. Symptoms can include dizziness, tiredness, shortness of breath, and an irregular heartbeat. In fact, anaemia can even trigger hair loss.

Without enough calories and weight, your body will battle to heal itself. A study published in Arthroplasty Today journal found that when underweight people had knee replacement surgery, they were more likely to get infections afterwards than people who weighed more. This is because being underweight inhibits your body's ability to heal wounds. The Diet Plate, with its designated portions of important starchy carbohydrates and protein, can help you stay on top of a healthy diet.

The Problem With Being Overweight

You might think that being obese can cause health problems and it can, but being overweight is bad in itself, the terms overweight and obese are applied at different levels of weight, you can see these comparisons on the BMI check. A global study by The Sun Newspaper found that four million people died in 2015 due to illnesses associated with being overweight. These included diabetes and heart disease. When you're overweight, you have an increased risk of high blood pressure because your heart has to pump blood harder to reach all your body's cells. According to a study by the American Heart Association, 50 percent of overweight people have high blood pressure that's a result of being overweight. Having high blood pressure is linked to various illnesses, such as stroke, heart disease, and kidney failure.

Losing weight, even just five pounds  can lower your unhealthy blood pressure. So what is considered overweight according to the BMI It's anything between 25 and 29. Thus, it's important to lose any extra pounds so that you stay within the healthy range for your specific height. Having a healthy BMI isn't just about being a weight that makes you feel good about your appearance. It's about ensuring your health! A healthy BMI can help to keep many illnesses at bay. If you're too thin or overweight, both can be risky for your health in may ways. You will hear people say that BMI is not accurate because you can have a muscle clad rugby player showing a BMI of 34 and be considered obese. There are a few exceptions but this article is aimed at regular people who know that losing weight would do them a power of good.
